SE U.S. haunting histories big business - 2005/03/12 09:22 hi,

Yes! It's true! in the Southeastern United States it's becoming big business to have your house and property history researched and a big plus to have documentation of deaths on such which have resulted in ghostly activity. Over the past few years i've become aware of the ghost trade among anti-bellum plantation owners to open their homes as bed and breakfasts which offer possible encounters with resident ghosts. In days gone by just the thought of a place being haunted would send people in the opposite direction. Nowadays it's actually in fashion to have at least one ghost and preferable to have many more. customers who stay at these establishments are given a tour of the property which includes the history as far back as it can be established. some proudly display old newspaper articles detailing murders, accidental deaths, and even undiscovered burials until many years after the person was buried. all these things add to an air of mystery and exploration into the realm of the "twilight zone". guests are urged to add their experiences to visitor books located in each room which are sometimes later turned into reading material for visitors.

all in all the business of researching the history of houses which range from very small to very large have become big business as it adds to the value of a house by providing something the public is yearning for. who dosen't want to know for themselves that ghosts truely do exist if they've never experienced one before? for those of us who have it's an entirely different story, lol. so, if you have a spook or two or more it might be well worth your while to put together the history of your property and turn it into a neat profit either as a bed and breakfast or a book or hey what about both!

Re:SE U.S. haunting histories big business - 2005/03/16 03:29 Patty, it is DEFINITELY NOT worth the time, nor the effort in this part of the country to do that. Believe me, I have grown up here all my life, they say that this part of the county is one of the most haunted. It would just be another "attraction" that would flop after a while. Besides, renters are too much trouble than they are worth right now in this stage of our lives...we barely have enough time for two children, a dog, countless spirits and a partridge in a pear tree!
