My Stories - 2004/10/11 07:57
I actually have a few ...
When I was 8-9 years old, I shared a room with my older sister. We had 2 cats at that time, and we always felt the cats jump on our beds - but when we looked around - they weren't there. There were several occasions when it felt like someone was sitting on our beds - but there was no one there. One night I woke up to see a man sitting on the edge of my sister's bed looking over her. She was sound asleep. I wasn't afraid - and he eventually disappeared. When I described the man to my mother the next day - she told me that I described my uncle (her brother) who I had never seen. He had died within a few days of my sister being born. It is still a very vivid memory.
I had another 'experience' in my teen-age years. Some background: There was a family that lived next to us for years. They eventually moved away - and within a few years of the move, one of the children (a little boy) was hit and killed by a car. There were several instances of my friends driving to my house and telling me that they saw a little kid standing in the street, but when they got closer - the kid was gone. This happened to different friends at different times. They did not all know each other - so I don't believe it was the power of suggestion. When some of my friends and I were sitting outside talking about it one night, we heard a strange noise. We were sitting at the end of my driveway on a street that went downhill. When we looked in the direction of the noise - we noticed a soft drink can rolling up the street. It wasn't windy - and it wasn't rolling at any kind of angle. Needless to say - we were indoors for the rest of the night. I wondered why he would come back to his old house - until I remembered the dog. When the family moved, their dog kept coming back to our house. We would take him back - but he would find his way the 10 miles back to our home. We eventually kept the dog until he died. Maybe the little boy was coming for his dog.

You say it was rolling 'up the street'. As in up hill?

Yes - it was rolling up the hill - straight up the hill. Not like a can would roll if it were caught by the wind (of which there was none!).

That's bizzare... That would have made a good Halloween commercial for Coca Cola though

Hi Ima,
Have you experienced anything since your childhood? I'm just curious. We don't necessarily "outgrow" the ability as children to see apparitions.
As far as the can rolling UP the street, it was a nice touch. Some of them are real creative at getting our attention.
And taking care of his dog was very gracious of you. Obviously the bond between the boy and his dog was very strong. If no other instances occured, you can assume that the boy saw that his buddy would be well taken care of by you and was able to go to the other side. Sounds dramatic, but isn't Life like that?
