Is it wise or advisable to talk to a ghost? If you're at your wits end concerning sounds, sights and smells you can't find an origin for I'd say they're fair game! I've had such experiences and told the ghosts in no uncertain terms that i paid the rent or mortgage now and "I" didn't invite it to come live with me. It's good to vent sometimes but after you do it let cooler minds prevail and state your orders in a no nonsense straight forward manner about what you will and will not accept from it. At first my demands were simple such as, "quit making those ______ _______ noises! I can't get any sleep with all that racket going on so cut it out!" lol. It works for awhile and they usually start up again. I suppose they figure you're sleeping through the night so they can once again make noise. It seems that treating ghosts as invaders dosen't work too well. What does seem to work best is researching the history of the house. There are city directories that go way back, housed at your county library usually. Reading the history of the area is always a plus. You can relate it sometimes to the former occupants, sometimes not. There are large dusty books that your city and county have called plat maps which show where wells are located and such things as structures, ie, houses, outbuildings, barns etc. Best of all, once you have a surname of the suspected family you can go about searching the large dusty volumes called the death records. browsing down columns you can keep an eye out for the address where you are experiencing the ghost. They are catagorized by year when looking at the 1900's. As well, in city records there are probate records which denote mother, father, children, birth and death dates and other interesting facts. By and large it's always best to do a little investigation work when you notice something is definitely going on as pertains to ghostly activity. Sometimes it pays to make friends with the older residents closest to your house especially if they've lived there a number of years. Information about former residents of your house from such sources are always intrigueing.
After all is said and done with the papertrail of former residents who may qualify as the ghosts you are experiencing, you have a good idea what sort of individual you are dealing with. How would you react to such an individual out in public? How would you react if you realized that this person, who's still hanging around, may not realize that they are without a physical body. Give them some experiments to test this out for them. I'm sure you can be creative on your own with that one! lol next when you feel it is in your personal space take advantage of the situation and show it up to date calendars pointing out the year. To further lay the foundation of time display your bills. Make sure to point out to the ghost what the address is, who the bill is sent to, and the date. If you are of a sympathetic feeling towards this ghost's plight you might suggest that they go towards the light and call upon the name of God for help. If they still insist on staying put in your home, make sure to make it very plain what you expect. personally i told it i didn't want to know it was still around, no sounds, no smells, no seeing it, no nothing!!! lol Sometimes the ghost just comes back to interact with new tenants out of lonliness. In heaven there's no lonliness but they aren't in heaven, they're in your house! If you sense certain emotions from it go with your gut instinct and if you want to help it understand go for it. If not make it clear that you want no involvement with it for any reason.
If nothing else remember that we are all ghosts but some of us still have our physical bodies, for now that is! Be very sure of what it is you're dealing with. Some bad spirits of people and non people would have you believe they are good and string you along to get a foothold in your life and possibly in your body. I have seen a family member who exhibited possession on two occasions. It can and does happen so be sensible in what you choose to do.
As for the ouija, personally after i've read and heard reports from all over about the effects of using this, i'd run away and not look back. Whether it's taken a short time or a long time for it to take effect there's always a price to be paid for playing with such things. My relative's house is a good example of this. A beautiful home built in the 1920's by a wealthy couple with lots of time on their hands. they loved to entertain all sorts of people in their home. when the spiritualist craze hit the u.s. the woman of the house decided to be a medium and hold seances. She died in the middle of her last one in that house. I've personally seen 18 ghosts in that house, heard a few others and smelled others yet. If you think the house you're in is too small for you and the ghost you already have, take my advice and don't open the door for countless others to take up residence as well.
hopefully this will help those of you seeking to know what works and what dosen't. These are just some things i used that worked for me. There are countless other resources in city and county records i've not mentioned here, such as microfilm of all newspapers from your town or county. There are historical books at the library also about family lineages where you might find your ghost listed and something about them. look in your counties real estate records for other information about the house and the property. By all means utilize your library's research librarian to locate and find anything and everything you might find of use.

re: how can they not know they are "dead". well, they can still feel things with their hands, they can smell things, they can taste things, hear things, see things, and they can still communicate by talking.
what exactly would we consider "death" to be like when our body dies? some think that's the end, that there isn't anything else. many have been to the other side and i am one of them. i've had three experiences in all, and two of those happened while in the hospital. i know what some say about near death experiences being a fantasy cooked up by the brain. i proved that i was up above watching what was being done with my body down below after my body died. doctor's wanted to know what i remembered from my "death" but i wasn't going to tell them and have them lock me up as mentally damaged from the experience.
so when you're dealing with a ghost what you are actually dealing with is a real person who just dosen't have a body at that time. we are all ghosts inside these bodies. if you read the literature about such things you will find that they can, but most choose not to, exercise all the abilities they had in life, as a ghost. some do however.
for most ghosts that i've come across i get the impression that they are fine with not having a body and know they are dead. others pace around in confusion, denial, and anger at things being not what they expect them to be. a trauma like that to a person with a physical body causes a split personality. imagine what it would do to a person who had not passed through the tunnel to the other side. you see, ghosts which are angry or noisy haven't been to the other side yet. they are still trying to get a living person's attention to tell them that they want help. they're confused by what's going on around them.
time isn't the same for them as it is for us. once you are outside your body time dosen't apply. so when we see them at different times it's possible that they first arrived in our future and last arrived in our past. some ghosts are definitely in denial or just reliving their joys in life by opening doors and windows and closing them again. some have wondered why ghosts bother with these things at all when they can just as easily go through a wall.
the other side is quite different in other respects as well. there is a discernable ache like a vibration to your body when you come back from the other side. ghosts seen to be showing major wounds or parts missing obviously are sticking around and haven't been to the other side yet. i mean by that, through the tunnel. some ghosts moan, cry, scream because that's what they were feeling when their bodies were last alive. it is possible that it's all in their minds too, the pain. i don't know that part and hope not to ever, lol. i do know that when i drowned it didn't hurt in the least. when i breathed in it was like breathing in air.
so if you really had a zest for life even if you were dying you might stick around. when you die you get up out of your body but i think some people don't look where they got up from to see their body still sitting or lying there. some just go on with life as if "gee, it's nice that i can get up again.", never give it another thought and become very angry over time when no one can see them or hear them.
i really think that some of my uncle's ghosts realized at some point that i could see and hear them. some ghosts are able to speak audibly so that human ears can hear. some like me can hear their thoughts. i've seen ghosts who've thought what they wanted to think towards me and i heard it. when i give them a look of receiving it they straighten up with a shocked looked on their face. that doesn't happen often but when it does i think it's hilarious. some ghosts like to just appear to you to get a rise out of you and then before you can even think what to say to them they fade out in front of you. so shocking them is sort of like getting them back, lol. though that's not what i was up to when i heard what they thought.

Fascinating. They may not realize they're dead, but since time stands still, that state of 'mind' could span our entire lifetime. Certainly mind boggling. I can't imaging what it would be like to have no limitations such as time or matter.

hi,
well, it's like remembering something while you're asleep and you feel like you're there re-living it all over again. who knows but that we are. there are times when i've gone out of body, maybe due to drowing, maybe the normal ties that keep ones spirit in one's body has failed to do so in my case. that being so, it happens without notice of any kind when i'm wondering about something. it happens even in my sleep. i've had dreams that people came to take me flying and i dreamed i pulled leaves off the tree outside my second story bedroom window. when i woke up the next morning i was really tired and had leaves in my hand and muddy feet and legs. i have no idea what went on other than what i dreamed.
i've had visions in my sleep numerous times which scared the daylights out of me. i saw friends and a family member, all different incidents, die. it felt like i was actually there, i had all my senses and could feel the air and smell it. i told my brother about the one i had of him dead in his car. i described everything in a detailed letter. 2 days before he got his his girlfriend had had the same vision in her sleep and told him all the same details i had written down. i had prayed that god would give the vision to someone close to him that he'd listen to. i didn't contact any of them as i knew what people would think of me and i might be locked away somewhere nice and safe. i had never been to two of the places and didn't know that one of them had been doing undercover in our town while living in another city. for the two where i'd never been i knew who had been there to see things and so i detailed it all for them to see if what i'd experienced matched. the girl was shot 6 times in the neck and chest by her husband. the guy hit a tree on a three wheeler. all my details matched exactly. the guy's place of death had only been opened that very day by the state. it was on state property. i drew a detailed sketch of the entire area and showed which side of his head hit the tree. my sister in law who'd been there when it happened who looked my picture over nearly fainted it was so exact. with the last guy whom i saw murdered i saw the murderer too. i told the family the guys description and what color his car was, make and model. it's a guy who's known as being connected to organized crime in that town. i not only saw him walk up to the car of my friend i saw him take out a gun and aim it down through his chest as he sat in his car. i felt like i'd been shot and felt myself slide out of my body only to discover it had been my friend who'd endured it. the same happened with the other two friends i thought it was happening to me and it really scared me. the one that hit the tree left a lasting impression of a very bad headache on the same side that he'd hit the tree. the girl's death that i saw happened two days after my dream of being there when it happened. the guy on the three wheeler, it was two days after my dream. my brother he was coming home in less than two weeks. he cancelled his leave to come home on new years. seeing and experiencing these things is just plain weird but it has given me insight into things such as other do not know of. why am i this way? i don't know but some call it god given abilities. i call it a curse sometimes.
does it still work? yes, recently i had a very strong urge to photograph a friend of mine where i moved from. we didn't have time to stop that day. she died before i could get back to her. i talked with her about dying when i last saw her. whenever anyone i know is about to die i get a very strong urge to take their picture. needless to say, those who know about it cringe when i take their pictures. some ask if they are going to die soon. grandma didn't ask but mom asked me to stay with grandma for about 4 days to help her out. i told her i could not. she asked why and i told her because grandma was going to die in 3 to 4 days. she died of a massive heart attack around midnight of the third day. guess that made it the 4th day. grandma and i talked about her dying the last i saw her. she wanted me to help mom when she passed on herself. i believe she knew she would be going soon after and said something to that effect. i told her not to say that but she was not afraid and not resigned to it, just at peace with it. mom came to me to tell me something and i reminded her that i'd already told her that grandma would die. mom remembered then too and stood there with her mouth open. she wanted to know how i did that. i didnt' know myself. all i could say was that when i knew something like that i prayed for the person to be allowed to stay if it was god's will. i didn't want to lose grandma.
some of them come back to tell me things after they pass over. it's scary for me to be sitting there minding my own business, and even when i'm in the bathtub, and there they are. i can't see them but i can smell them, their perfume, and i can hear them with my mind. the one who hit the tree was very excited saying, "it's not at all like they said it would be like in sunday school!" he said this three times in a row. i was trying to cover up, deal with the sucking away of the heat from the whole room and the bath water. i was telling him i got the message, now please go where you're supposed to be with god and oh, thanks alot for sucking the heat out of my bath water. i had just run it and it would take a half hour to get any more hot water. he laughed and thanked me for listening to him. he was happy i could hear him. it freaked me out. i told him, "no offense man, but you're dead and this is weirding me out!" my sister in law had a similar experience with him and said all she could do was keep telliing him to get out! lol. later she was crying at the pain he had to have felt. i told her he wasn't feeling it anymore if he did at all. i told her it was over. she had been to church too, wanted to know if it was true that we are still alive after our body dies. i told her i'd talk to him to see if there was something he could tell me that only she would know. it was something i didn't know. he showed me and told me what to say, saying to say it word for word just like he told me to say. lol he said to put my hands on both sides of her head, make her look me in the eyes, and say, "shut the f*** up!" lol i didn't know it was a greeting of sorts for them and i substituted another word for the f word as i didn't cuss. he told me he wanted me to do it again and i told her i didn't do it right and please don't hit me for saying a bad word. she said ok and i did it again. she cracked up laughing and crying at the same time. she kept saying he's alive! she was so happy. minutes later she told me how that was their little secret greeting to each other. lol i'm just glad she didn't hit me!
so, you see, i've had some "other" experiences that most people will never have. i don't know why but it's interesting and it's enlightening to say the least. i know that i will be alive yet when my body dies. i know where i want to go to and i know where i don't want to go to, lol. i hope that all who read this understand that i'm not a kook but just someone who seems to be blessed. some think it's an evil thing but i know it has helped everyone i've gotten messages for. some don't like it at first but later they usually come back around and apologise telling me how it actually helped them. hey, it's not easy to tell people some of these messages. it requires alot of thought to understand that they've been given a great gift of a message from their loved one.
i hope to help eveyone who comes to your site understand these things. i don't have all the answers but maybe i can help ease their fears.
something that's been on my mind is whether someone in your family likes wolf pictures or has american indian bloodlines. it feels so much like someone sees the spirit of the wolf as being strong and steady and they value this. the indians speak of totems such as this who protect those of us who are native american. i didn't grow up indian but was raised irish/german/american. i know about the totems from internet sources and others. they talk of the totem animal as sometimes visiting us so that we can see, hear, and smell them. there is also characteristics allotted to the wolf by the indians which you might want to read up on.

My, my, Patty. To have lived in your shoes for only a fraction of your life would fill volumes of books with knowlege. I am certainly glad that you have chosen to share it here!
I am Irish through and through...My Grandmother was full-blooded Irish, while my mother has deep Cherokee blood-lines.
As for RootWeb, I know he has some Native American history as well, but how much, I don't know.
I was brought up Irish American, however. I know nothing of my "Cherokee" heritage. I can say that after the other day, and with the previous dealings, I do not consider the wolf as anything other than something wild and "unnatural" in my home.
I bet it must be hard for you to be the bearer of information that others are not ready/willing to hear. You must be a deeply spiritual person who is very content with your position in this world to continue with your mission that God has chosen for you. God bless you for that.
