Ain't Electronics grand? - 2005/03/04 01:37
Just thought I'd pass on something. It was documented in military records (a logbook, actually), but fat chance of ever finding them.
During the 80's the US Army decided to open a new Language School in San Francisco in addition to the one in Monterey, California. There is, or was, an old public health hospital on the grounds of the Presidio where they renovated the 3rd, 4th and 5th Floors for their students to learn German, Korean and Spanish. All other floors were not used and off limits. Even the new Entrance was through the back door which conviently put you on the 3rd Floor.
Being "Soldiers", we had to pull our share of guard duty at the Reception Desk on the 3rd floor during the nights. At about 2:30 a.m. we heard laughter coming over the communications console loudspeaker and a red light for the 1st floor reception area lighted up. It sounded like a regular party down there with so many voices down there cutting up. So one of us went downstairs to investigate.
The unlucky soldier dutifully checked the area out. Nobody was there. No party. Nothing. Empty, disused and cold. We heard him over the intercom system as he went in and checked everything out. Our problem was we heard not only him, but the other voices as well. And they were responding somehow more to his prescence. He saw and heard nothing. With a very uneasy feeling, he scrammed and ran back up the 3 flights of stairs to us. Shortly thereafter noises stopped. And we logged it in the book.
Out of curiousity we checked the other logbooks dating back to the time the school was opened. There were numerous entries referring to the party downstairs. Always in the same area, approximately the same time, and always with the same results. And amazingly, nobody (i.e. Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant or Officer) never questioned us about our entry. It was an accepted occurance that simply happened quite often. The school itself was closed a few years later.
Why and how are they able to make themselves heard and seen over electronic communication, recording and photographic devices? Where's the catch with electricity (electronics) and frequencies? Any clues, Folks?
