I am terribly sorry that I have not updated the site for a long time, but my grandmother has been very ill. Today, we attended her funeral, and like all the funerals I have ever had the ill fortune of attending, the weather reflected the mood…cold and rainy.
The spirits in our house have been rather quiet. I believe we have come to a kind of understanding. They know when to bother me, and me alone.
The child, a while ago, was quite rambunctious. I was making banana-nut bread one morning. The children were in bed, and my husband had left for work, so the house was quiet. Our dog loves walnuts…actually, he begs for any type of food, but he loves it when I bake. So, I know that I have to keep things away from the edge of the counter, because he will jump, grab whatever he can, and drag it down to quickly consume it. Thus, the walnuts went to the back of the counter, far from reach, and to safety.
While I was stirring the batter, trying to get the flour stirred in, I saw the bag of walnuts rise off the counter, and fall to my right, onto the floor. It was one continuous arch. Of course, it was followed by the signature childish giggle. I said in a very clear voice, “Look, I am in the middle of making bread, and am in no mood to be messed with right now.” And with that, all was quiet again in the kitchen.
The Lady in Grey continues to walk our house. We were sitting in our living room; I was watching House (one of my favorite shows) and RootWeb was on the computer. I suddenly saw the Lady in Grey walk down the hallway, and enter our room, looking over her shoulder, directly at me. RootWeb asked me what was wrong, what I was looking at, and I told him that we just had a visitor in our room. So, it is becoming a normal, almost common experience here.
I can live with these two spirits/entities. They seem harmless. The child just loves to play games. Our daughter asked me the other day if there was ever a little boy that lived in this house, because she sometimes sees one standing in the corner of her room, by the closet. I really need to do more research into this house. Time is just something I have very little of right now.
However, I believe that we might have another visitor….A long time ago, my father used to smoke a pipe. He used to smoke Captain Black tobacco (in the blue pouch), and it had a very distinct vanilla smell to it. He has not smoked now for 15 years or so. This morning, in the shower, I could smell the smell of that tobacco so strongly that I instantly thought of my father. It was very pungent…and very localized…right by our toilet. I got out of our shower, to investigate. The smell was not outside the door, not by the sink, not in the shower, but only right by the toilet…and no one in our house smokes. And then it just went away…just like that. Now, I have heard many things since all of this has started, but the toilet???
I have heard that two is company, but three is a crowd….
