“That’s the most scared I’ve been at this house...” That’s what my wife said, and, if the dog could talk, he would have said the same. Sure, we will always have the little things that happen. Doors opening, water faucets being turned on, light switches being flipped, and ‘noises’. We always assume those routine hauntings are from a ghost or spirit that’s simply wandering or careless. But what if the haunting is actually a ghost or spirit that wants to scare you or even hurt you? What if it wants to ‘get you’ so much so that you are actually afraid to go to sleep? And even if you could, the dog that continues to bark in the same fear would just wake you up again. Welcome to our next update!
Recently, we had an experience that I didn’t think was even possible. I’ll be honest; we’re actually looking elsewhere to live now. Perhaps a new home won’t have so many issues under the foundation, if you know what I mean. I wonder though, does a person have to disclose that a house is even haunted when they sell it? I assume not, since paranormal activity can’t easily be proven. I mean, if everyone went to sleep at night with a tape recorder and camera around their neck, then we would have proven the paranormal long ago. But, since we don’t, disclosing paranormal happenings probably isn’t a requirement. I’ll stop rambling and move right along to the update.
On one particular evening, my wife awakened me so that I could observe the dog. He was standing on my bed, facing a wall, and growling fiercely at something that wasn’t there. The odd thing though, was that I heard two dogs growling. One seemed to be coming from the wall itself. The other side of the wall is the family room, so I worried that a dog had somehow managed to come into my house. My wife held on to me, seemingly very scared. I asked what was going on, and why he was doing that, and that’s when she filled me in with what I missed while sleeping...
She had gotten up to go use the restroom at a little after 2AM. When she was done in there, and getting ready to come back to bed, she heard a low growl. She said it didn’t sound like a dog though; it sounded more like a wolf or something wild. The growl appeared to be coming from the family room. Thinking it was our dog, she headed down the hall, through the dining room, and had just stepped into the family room. Then all of a sudden, the growls sounded as if they were coming from the living room, which is on the opposite side of the dining room. She turned around to peer into the dark living room, but couldn’t see anything. Suddenly, the ferocious growl was getting closer to her, and she started hearing little ‘ticks’ coming towards her, as if something with nails was walking across the ceramic tile floor of the dining room. She backed into the family room, startled, and then darted into the bedroom. Whatever was coming toward her had yet to be actually seen.
This brings us to present, when my dog had awakened from his sleep and jumped on the bed, obviously to ‘protect us’. His tail was pointed straight up, and I’ve not seen it do that before. He was growling intensely and showing all of his teeth to something that simply was not visible. Whatever he was growling at was certainly growling back, but the match didn’t last long. After about 60 seconds the growling stopped, and we felt a drastic temperature plunge. I looked down at a backlit digital thermometer that I have in the bedroom and it read 58 degrees. The normal temperature is 75-78 degrees, and is automatically controlled.
Now, with what I’ve told you in mind, here is some area information. First of all, we are very close to a road called Wolfpen. As the county historian states in his book '13 ghosts', Wolfpen Road was home to thousands of wolves that were slaughtered when we populated the area. Officials actually placed a bounty on the head of wolves so that people would have incentives to kill them. The book also states that, at least over the past several years, a lot of people have reported wolves howling in the area; yet no wolves have actually ever been found to remain.
Assuming you believe in the paranormal, what do you think about what I’ve just told you? Can animals be ‘ghosts’? If so, could the ghost wolf actually see us and/or my dog? How would you feel if you heard the movement of a wolf toward you, but couldn’t actually see it?

Teu Written by Guest on 2005-02-28 21:21:57 Hi, I wrote about twenty pages of comments and then erased them and here I am beginning anew. I've read all your postings and we've chatted a bit via email and so I feel it's in proper response to tell you I believe you should move, move as soon as possible. What I feel you're dealing with aren't spirits, well in the sense I define spirits. I believe you're dealing with a mass of dis-embodied spirits, lost ones, ones that don't know they're dead, ones that died suddenly in a fit of discord with the world or themselves... in essence - disgruntled spirits in a massive group. I believe the Bible calls this type a demon. I hate using that descriptive word because of the stigma attached to it but I can't come up with a better one just yet. I can tell you that if I'm correct you ain't seen nothin' yet ! Sounds as if there's territorial issues going on too. I'd love to ask some questions and hear the responses you and your wife has. Don't piss it off, don't challenge it, don't play with it. You really don't want or need to see, hear feel more - do you ? Animals and children can see and hear spirits when adults cannot. You have my blessings & prayers | "ticking" Written by patty1019 on 2005-03-01 12:30:04 we've had the same "ticking" in our bathroom on one occasion. i was watching tv late at night and heard this. it got so loud that i thought it might wake up my husband. thinking our 20 lb. dog was making a lot of noise in there i called for her. her head popped up off the bed, lol. oh yea, that was a surprise! she blends in so well with her long white fur and sleeps so quietly that sometimes you wouldn't know she's even there. i continued to listen and heard this "ticking" again in there. it sounded like a dog the size of the akita we once owned and he weighed 110 lbs. the loud "ticking" soon woke my husband who sat up and said i should see why the dog was making so much noise in the bathroom. the floor is tile in there. i pointed down at her on the bed and he asked me what was making that "ticking". i shrugged and he eased out of his bed to get the jump on whatever it was. the light from the tv was plenty of light to see in there and as he stepped outside the bedroom door just feet from the bathroom door the "ticking" stopped. he stepped back into the room and asked what i'd heard. i told him and he went right in there to check out everything. this sound was clearly the sound of a dog's nails on tile flooring. our dog, lying on the bed had heard it and tucked herself up beside me as tight as she could and was shaking. there was nothing i could do to get her to leave the bed. her eyes were as big as quarters. my husband went from searching the bathroom to searching the whole house thinking that some wild animal had got into the house or something. both of us grew up around wild and tame animals and we both knew what we'd heard. there was no mistaking it. i told him i hoped to god it wasn't the akita we had to put down. he gave me a look and shivered then grumbled and went back to bed. the dog stayed right there with me for quite some time until she finally let out a big sigh and laid her head down to sleep. i listened for alot longer and kept my eye on things until i was sure there wasn't anything there anymore. i've never liked being startled awake. it's interesting to note that i heard it, then the dog did, then my husband was actually awakened by it. the dog and i have heard a choker chain with tags which sounded like one for a big dog. the neighbors said the previous occupants had a big dog living in the house. our dog growled for "no reason" from time to time even snarling when we first moved here. the level she was looking at from the bed suggested that whatever she saw had it's eyes at almost the same level she was sitting at. the way she snarled and the way her hackles went up right now told me she was seeing something she felt to be very real. as soon as she felt safe to back up towards me, not turning around mind you, she nearly climbed up on top of my head, she was that frightened. my husband has spent a good deal of time searching the house since we moved here and finally ordered the dog not to bark and growl at things we couldn't see. he told her that if she was scared she could come to me and i'd protect her, lol. over time her reaction to these incidents have become one of showing her displeasure by showing her teeth and snarling quietly. i've noticed that she'll get up while doing this and let out a big "sneeze" while backing up towards me. she uses these loud sneezes to tell us when she's displeased with us too, lol! i've left her in the bedroom on occasion and later saw her fly out of that room like a bat out of hell like something was chasing her. she has lots of doggie friends where we used to live but for some reason she dosen't like this ghost dog. maybe for the fact that she sees it as invading her territory. it could be that the ghost wolf in your house feels that your dog is invading it's territory. there are human ghosts who feel this way towards living persons who inhabit what was once their home. some men who were called into military service back in the old days had wolves for pets. native american indians also kept wolves. these were used mainly as a food source in lean times. i'm sure that in time they learned the wolf was good for alerting them to danger from animals and humans alike. the white man learned this from the indians. wolves were native to this area and already knew how to deal with the resident bear population. ohio still has a sizable bear population today among other large animals who find protection in the vast area that is the wayne national forest in ohio. the road you live on is named wolfpen so i'd assume the name came from wolves kept in pens where they were raised for their fur? or maybe their domestication for use by settlers or the military? a wolf could help one ward off bears, wild indians, and other whites up to no good. it's very likely that the place where your house sits was one of the wolfpens that your road is named for. it's also possible that a former structure stood where your house now stands in which someone had a pet wolf. a pet wolf was more common in the old days than one might assume. we still have alot of black bears in ohio, and there were wild indians all over ohio in settlement days, and there are always whites up to no good too. a thorough search of historical records with the aid of research librarians who are paid to do such for the public would uncover any facts connected with your area and your land. knowing these things might answer alot of questions you have. hope this helps. patty1019 | call of the wild Written by thelostamerican on 2005-03-02 10:14:55 I really hate to see you go but... I also think it's best. I've heard of pets coming back as entities although it is very seldom. And they were pets, not wild animals. Furthermore, I don't believe they would be melevolent. Maybe they would want to protect their territory as suggested, but I seriously doubt they would purposely perform any mischief. They are not as vengeful or as cunning in a detrimental way as humans are. Wild animals tend to avoid a confrontation with humans unless really threatened. Why would this "wolf" advance on your wife? Territory? My dogs always barked at other dogs... but growled at predators. I really hate to say it but I believe Teu has something with "the descriptive word with the stigma attached". Because of the obvious aggresiveness, I would not say you are dealing with a wild Lassie, but rather something more menacing. I've mentioned to you about being careful in your endeavors, that it could backfire. Your last entry, "This is the Place", seems more understandable now and with this new entity appears to certify it. You've opened a door. Your interest, curiosity and/or patience has drawn more visitors to your home. Not all entities are passive or playful. Some mean business. I really hate to see you go, but can understand your reasons. Time to pack. It ain't gonna get any better. Take care! | Ravenwolfe (Teu) {Response} Written by rootweb on 2005-03-03 19:16:48 "I'd love to ask some questions and hear the responses you and your wife has." Ok, do you still have my email address? I'll send you my wifes address too. "You really don't want or need to see, hear feel more - do you ?" No, but I would end up losing money if I did move now. I've only been here a year, that's hardly enough to even cover the moving expenses. Still though, I don't want to be around if something evil is toying with us. | Patty {Response} Written by rootweb on 2005-03-03 19:21:47 That is interesting about wolfs as pets and/or food, I hadn't really thought that much about it. I guess if a human feeds it, sure, it will stick around as a pet. I don't doubt for a minute that there was one killed right where this house is though. Not after this happened anyway. I never did do a very good search through the property records though. I need to do that. Out of curiosity if anything else. I wonder what really used to go on around here... You live fairly close don't you? | thelostamerican {Response} Written by rootweb on 2005-03-03 19:26:55 I replied to your email, did you get it? Wild animals tend to avoid a confrontation with humans unless really threatened. Why would this "wolf" advance on your wife? Territory? My dogs always barked at other dogs... but growled at predators. Good point, yes, usually the dog barks. This time he was obviously behaving differently. I don't know why the wolf would behave that way. You've opened a door. Why isn't it constant though? It seems that there must be something to tie each of these 'large' happenings together. | Written by thelostamerican on 2005-03-04 05:45:32 I got your mail. Thanx! You'll be hearing from me again As far as the door remaining constantly open, I would say it appears to be more of passageway into our deminsion and back. I've gone back and re-read your entries and if I'm not mistaken, all of the entities have been seen or experienced once. The man with the glasses in your daughter's room, the 2 soldiers, the man your wife saw in the dining room, how your dog reacts in different ways to unseen things... it all seems that these entities are just passing through. It could be they have to wait for the portal to open. What ties the large happenings together? Good question. I tend to think its coincidence. It's life, if you will. It has nothing to do with day or night, full moon or waning, halloween or St. Bertrum's day. The more receptive one is, the more will be noticed. I've experienced a growling once and I can understand your wife. It will scare the living bejibbies out of you. But it was only once (at a very inoppurtune time, I might add). After that I never heard it again. For that fact, I never heard from the woman I was with again either What I'm getting at is, it's like working in 7-11. You can't control who comes in when or how their personalities are. But you can draw the line when they get out of hand (or at least try). Some spirits are tied to a certain area. Everyone seems to accept that. But it is more a personal choice. Come on, stop talking about ghosts as spirits or spooks drawn or trapped to certain areas. They were people before they bit the big one. Thinking, feeling and physically living people (or animals). They've lost their physical being, but the soul holds who we are. And that continues. I know hundreds of thousands of people who never leave home. That is to say, they always stay in their hometown near mama and papa or as close as possible. It's their choice. Others cut the bond and strike out on their own. We don't change when we die. The soul remains intact. Ghosts decide where they stay or where they go. For various reasons. The same as we do. -Damn, I'm doing good this morning- At any rate, until you go, don't forget that your home is your castle (or 7-11). You make the rules. Allow your guests in but let them know, in a friendly but stern way, to leave your wife alone when she has to go to the john, don't slam doors when the kids are around, don't try to get frisky with your daughter, don't play around when you have company for dinner, and leave the poor dog out of it before he collapses from a nervous breakdown. Maybe they'll be more open and friendly as well. Accept them being there. But its your house. ok. Got to go. Time for Sponge Bob. cya | one more tip Written by thelostamerican on 2005-03-04 06:51:20 Avoid doing anything but sleeping between 2 and 3:00 a.m. For some reason, it seems to be Happy Hour for "Guests". | Guest Written by Guest on 2005-03-15 12:19:10 Did you recently aquire a piece of furniture or something that a spirit may be attached to? | it could be your home Written by Guest on 2005-06-30 06:04:41 like someone mentioned earlier is a gathering place for spirits.meaning a gahtering place for any kind of spirit good or bad. this unfortunately means that you will have different kind of experiences.some very very unpleasant. i'm thinking others are right, first chance you get to move.MOVE. for now ask your guardian invisible guest who seems to protect to add on a little more protection or get more help. all you got to do is ask it outloud. | crazy Written by Guest on 2005-10-18 03:18:08 Being young once we snuck into a haunted mental hospital, so they say .Took pictures and all that fun stuff. My question is can you capture spirits with a photo or what do you think. Thanks from mass. | crazy Written by Guest on 2005-10-23 15:26:19 Anyone? can you take a picture of a spirit and bring it with you. Then to get rid of it you burn the picture. | dont think so Written by thelostamerican on 2005-10-24 07:16:56 I don't think so, but I may be wrong. I'll check it out and see what some of my friends say. ... ... ... Good question - really got to scratch the head on that one. Any ideas, Folks? tla | pictures Written by spooks on 2005-10-25 00:27:14 Well I never burned them but threw them out and all the weird feelings went away. The bad dreams weird feelings and the dog barking at nothing went away. Just wandering if there was any truth to this as much as their could be anyway. The dog barking was messed up sitting home one night alone me and my rottie hanging on the couch watching movies and ou tof no where that dog got right up barking and growling hair standing up on her back ready to rip something apart. So I said go get and off she went straight to the kitchen as I followed we both found nothing. That night she slept in my bed with me which she never has done before .I figure I brought something home with me after sneaking into the haunted mental hospital. They probably werent to happy I laid in the morge beds with them. | very intense Written by ParanormalOhio on 2005-10-25 12:08:01 Wow i agree iv only been reading a few of your posts so far about the home. but at this point you have to think about the safty of you and your wife. not all spirits are careless and passive and the one you have seems to want only one thing to be left alone and i reccomend listing to it. as far as having to disclouse a house is haunted...no you dont legally have too but think to yourself...what if the next family moves in isnt so lucky would you really want that hanging over your head ? | Good job! Written by thelostamerican on 2005-10-26 22:18:32 You did the right thing, Spooks! I checked with some friends of mine and we all had the gut feeling that burning the picture would just cause you to have more problems. This is the first time I've heard of a ghost acompanying a picture that was taken of it. Can I make a suggestion maybe? If this can appen (and I think you've proved it can), the stay away from asylums! Normal ghosts are difficult enough. Onne of a menntally ill patient could really be dangerous. Thanks for the question. You really got some folks thinking over here. And the result is fantastic. It may not work for everyone just to throw a pic away, but it is at least now a proven possibility. tla | thanks Written by spooks on 2005-10-27 01:24:03 Thanks for sharing my experience!! Have you ever had a whole family of ghost looking at you. Once when I was little ,after my parents seperation. I was asleep in bed and I woke up to a man woman a child and a dog all at the end of my bed I was ten then seventeen years ago. I dont know it was weird I just coverd my head and went to sleep scared to death but it seems like nothing like that ever happened untill after my parents seperation kida weird. My mom told me they were my guardian angels, probably just so I wouldnt be scared. The house was extremely old passsed on through family generations one after another after another so I guess it could be posssible they were relatives looking after me. Just another experience. | Spooks Written by thelostamerican on 2005-10-28 06:08:19 its me again! We've been brainstorming over your case and we've all come to the same conclusion over here. Could it be that through playing around and being somewhat disrespectful (laying on the Morgue tables), you got someone on the other side angry? He apparently wanted to teach you a lesson and once you threw the picture away out of fear or desperation, then he knew he had succeeded and went his own way again. It's important when entering a their area to be polite and couteous. Sounds wierd, but we are basically intruding into their world. If we explain what we plan to do and why as well as ask them first if its ok then we've shown a certain amount of reverence. They'll almost never answer directly but its the gesture on our part that counts. Can we eventually post your story in a new Forum? I think others could learn from it? You apparently have a bit of experience under your belt also. Don't hesitate to open a new forum Topic yourself. take care! tla | spooks Written by Guest on 2005-10-28 12:43:54 Sure what ever floats your spirit. |
