Today began as it usually does.  RootWeb leaves for work, I play with our dogs outside for a while before starting my daily household chores.  With the children being home for summer break, I always shut their doors in the morning so that I don’t wake them up prematurely.  After shutting our son’s door, I turned to shut my daughter’s door, and it was already shut.  It was not shut when I had passed it moments before.  I thought “How strange.”  So, I put my hand on the lever to push down and open the door, and it would not budge.  Again, I tried, thinking I did not push down completely.  Nothing.  Now, you might think that there would be nothing strange about a preteen having her door closed and locked.  Well, first of all, it is 6:00 in the morning…and she is fast asleep and has been so for the entire night.  Secondly, her door does not lock.  And finally, her door handle is a new one that RootWeb installed less than two weeks ago.

So, starting to worry, I asked God for assistance, and called out to our daughter to see if she had blocked the door.  There was no answer.  I immediately thought that she had gotten sick, fallen out of bed, and her dead body was in front of the door.  Ok, ok.  Yes, my mind goes into overdrive, but being in the emergency medical field will do that to a person.  Now, I called louder, and pushed with all my might.  The door sprang open with a soft click like normal, cold air BLASTED past me like it was being sucked out of her room, and she was loudly snoring as she always does in her bed.  Her window was open like I had opened it the half hour before hand. I checked behind her door.  Nothing, but an empty new book bag that we had bought her for school was behind it.  The dog stood in her doorway and growled toward the living room.  There was nothing in it.  It was dark.  He growled even harder and louder like he did in the rental, turned and actually scratched to get into our son’s room, whimpering.

I turned to let him in, and thought to myself,  “God, please let this door open.  I can’t take this again.”  And it opened right up.  The dog walked right in, got in bed with our son, and went back to bed.  I closed the door, walked down the hall, closed our daughter’s door, and walked into the coldest room I have felt in a long, long time.  It was so cold that I thought the air conditioner was still on, and it was broken.  But, I remembered that I had opened the windows and turned them off because it was 64 degrees Fahrenheit outside this morning.  Just as fast as I registered all that, it was gone and the room was pleasantly warm.  I was still shaking, but I was now warming up.

I don’t know what was wrong with the door handle.  I have tested it several times since then.  My daughter opened it right up and walked right out when she got up this morning.  She did not hear a thing.  She did not hear me yell her name, nothing!  Patty1019 suggested I talk to the spirits and give them parameters to abide by.  Well, I guess I am going to have to be very specific and have a contract drawn up by a lawyer that includes no locking of the children’s room…if it was the previous two spirits, the Lady and the Playful One…
